Faces of UVic Research: Leigh Anne Swayne
Dr. Leigh Anne Swayne is a neuroscientist and a professor at the University of Victoria. Her research focus is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the birth of new neurons. Her work will contribute to our knowledge of the bioelectric control of neural stem cells, and, in the long-term, may assist in the evaluation of specific ion channels as targets to promote brain repair. In this video, she discusses neural stem cells and ion channels in the brain and their potential in brain repair after damage, such as a stroke.
