Integrative medicine combines modern medical technologies with traditional natural approaches. Medical and Naturopathic doctors at Care Practice work together to teach our patients to use diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and cutting edge natural and pharmaceutical therapies to enhance their bodies ability to heal. Our integrative doctors view the patient as a complex, interrelated system, with unique lifestyle and environmental influences. We build comprehensive treatment plans that blend modern medical science with traditional natural medical approaches to treat disease and restore optimal health.

Integrative medicine combine the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science. Integrative medicine focuses on holistic, proactive prevention and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. By using protocols that minimize the risk of harm, our integrative doctors help facilitate the bodys inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. It is the physicians role to identify and remove barriers to good health by helping to create a healing internal and external environment.

We treat all medical conditions and provide both individual and family healthcare. Among the most common ailments we treat are allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, lyme disease, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. We have extensive experience in the treatment of acute and chronic illness with vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal remedies, nutritional counseling, meditation, intravenous (IV) nutrients, and physical medicines such as hydrotherapy, craniosacral therapy and spinal manipulation.

Our Integrative doctors will take time with you. During your first appointment, your doctor will take your health history, find out about your diet, stress levels, and discuss why youre here. We will perform an examination and may order comprehensive diagnostic tests. Our physicians stay up-to-date on the latest scientific research and incorporate this evidence into your treatments. Our integrative doctors will work with you to set up a customized health management strategy.

Your first visit may last one hour and follow-up visits range from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the severity of your condition. Our physicians take sufficient time to ask questions and understand the your health goals. We also take time to gather information, do appropriate examination and teach you about managing your condition and improving your health. Our integrative medicine approach to health care uses the least invasive therapies necessary to treat the root cause of illness, removes obstacles to recovery, and facilitates your bodys innate ability to heal through a variety of health promoting options.

What Is Integrative Medicine? – WebMD

Wednesday, August 17th, 2016

Experts explore new ways to treat the mind, body, and spirit -- all at the same time.

Even medical schools have added courses on nontraditional therapies, although doing so can sometimes be a point of contention among faculty.

At the University of California, San Francisco, medical students can augment their coursework in infectious disease and immunology with electives, such as "Herbs and Dietary Supplements" or "Massage and Meditation." They can even opt to study as exchange students at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the world of integrative medicine, it's not unusual to see a Western-trained MD who also has credentials in acupuncture or hypnosis, or a registered nurse who is also a yoga teacher and massage therapist.

Not all doctors are jumping onboard, though. Some critics have charged that integrative medicine is driven largely by market forces, as well as public fascination and demand for alternative treatments.

"This is a very faddish country," says Tom Delbanco, MD, a Harvard Medical School professor and doctor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. In one national survey of hospitals that offer complementary therapies, 44% listed "physician resistance" as one of the top three hurdles in implementing programs, along with "budgetary constraints" (65%) and "lack of evidence-based research" (39%).

Delbanco says he's concerned that there's not enough scientific evidence to justify the amount of resources spent on integrative medicine and complementary therapies. "I worry that people are making claims in the context of scientific medicine that they cannot really justify. I think there have been few rigorously controlled, scientifically sound studies in the area, and when they have been done, the vast majority have shown these medicines to be no different from placebo."

"I have no trouble with offering hope," he adds. "I think people need hope and optimism. Where I have trouble is when we promise things to people that aren't real."

The search for solid evidence is key: which therapies help and which don't? "There's a clamoring for understanding the biology of this," Sternberg says. Many proponents of integrative care say that it's crucial to hold alternative therapies up to scientific scrutiny, rather than dismissing them outright, because doctors and patients alike need answers. For example, a patient may be taking an herb that is harmful or may interfere with prescription drugs.

Integrative Medicine – Beaumont Health System

Monday, August 8th, 2016

Integrative medicine, sometimes referred to as holistic medicine or complementary medicine, combines conventional and alternative approaches to address the biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of health and illness. Our services are available for both adults and children.

Beaumont's Integrative Medicine Program focuses on healing the whole person, with the goal of improving quality of life for patients, their families and others close to them.

We offer clinical massage, acupuncture, naturopathy, guided imagery, reflexology, energy balancing with Reiki, scar therapy, lymphatic wellness massage, Indian Head Massage, hydrotherapy, Cranial Sacral Therapy, neuromuscular therapy, meditation and yoga which combine the best of Eastern traditions while complimenting traditional Western medical practice.

The goal of any successful integrative medicine program is to truly "integrate" allopathic medicine with mind-body-spirit modalities with the ultimate goal of helping patients adapt to traditional medical treatments. Our modalities directly affect the body's physiological healing process while gently awakening the mind-body-spirit connection needed to enhance the healing process.

Beaumont is also one of only a few centers in the United States who offers oncology/hospital massage training. This graduate program, overseen by Beaumont's integrative medicine department is offered through Beaumont's School of Allied Health.

Patients, their caregivers and the hospital staff need both private and group programs therefore we have structured our offerings around their stated needs. Individual treatments (regardless of hospital affiliation) include:

Our Medical Director, Maureen Anderson M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine, with additional education in the functional medicine approach. Her primary training and board certifications are in emergency medicine and general pediatrics. Over the years, Dr. Anderson has cared for patients of every age, presenting with a whole constellation of symptoms and diseases.

The wisdom and experience gained during years as an emergency physician have afforded her a unique and broad perspective, which nicely complements her integrative medicine skills and expertise. Dr. Anderson brings all of this, along with a passion for wellness, and a genuine interest in the total well-being of others to her integrative medicine practice

Please refrain from posting non-factual information in a review otherwise you are violating laws regarding defamation and libel. Please change your review to only post factual information.

Nope, it is factual and if you think what I said in my review isn't factual, then sue me!

You may want to re-read the emails, as what you posted does not match what was written. Also, Dr. Petrie doesn't have a practice in Virginia.

Of course she doesn't....lol

Dear Ms. Preston-

It has come to our attention that you have not been complying with your required treatment plan as we outlined for your FLMA. As you know the FLMA that we completed for you was for a reduced work schedule specifically to attend weekly doctor visits, to include our office. You have not attended ANY of these weekly visits at our office since the FLMA was signed by Dr. Ginnan, despite phone calls from our office which you failed to return.

We feel ethically bound at this point to retroactively rescind your FLMA, unless you keep your weekly visits at our office starting on June 15, 2015. Please call us immediately to set up your appointment

WHO DOES SOMETHING THIS ABSURD, EVERYONE I HAVE TOLD THINKS IT SOUNDS CRAZY!!!!!!

2 weeks ago Email # 4--oh and this is patient Jay W--probably the only good review of this business!

Thanks for the great review on yelp, to my family business that was only trying to help you. Much appreciations. You and I both know that all they were trying to do was help. You were getting better when you were going there. But I guess if you didn't get exactly what you wanted. Slander! That real mature. Have a nice day God bless. Jay W.

Of course Dr. Petrie (I mean Ms. Petrie because her Chiropractic license is suspended per an email I received from the VA Medical Board) doesn't have a business which is why I received a civil summons to appear in Fairfax County Court on 7/29/15 and she is the named plaintiff suing me for $25,000 for defamation and tortious interference of business. I guess she's trying to get the $25,000 from me that she was fined by the VA Medical Board. This woman is definitely a quack and a fraud and I am contacting the media to out this scam to warn other victims!!!!!

Helpful ReviewsMcDow, Russell E, MDmurphy36rated General Surgery

He's magnificent as a surgeon, and a human being. He was able to remove a rare type of cancer in my colon whereby I never need any follow-up with an oncologist, except for blood tests every six month. He is caring, personable, will take all the time you need in discussing ...moreyour case, and give you referrals. He truly is a rare bred in today's world because the doctors of today are only interested in one thing -- making money!view less

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

For thousands of years, TCM has been practiced in China. TCM includes dietary recommendations and manipulation, Qigong, a form of meditation and exercise, Tuina, a form of massage, herbal medicine and acupuncture.

Traditional Chinese Medicine uses terms that may sound strange to our modern ears, but it is a highly logical and effective system of medicine. Our Western system and the TCM system both have the same goal - to maintain health and treat patients who experience illness or injury. These two methods have different views of the body. The TCM view is a more holistic view and the Western is more mechanistic and linear. These two systems can often be combined for the benefit of the patient, thus the term 'Integrative Medicine' as opposed to 'complementary' or 'alternative'.

A melding of Western medicine with complementary, alternative and holistic modalities, integrative medicine offers many healing options. It is a gentle, comprehensive approach to achieving wellness and maintaining health, while honoring an animal's innate healing power.

One of our great joys as veterinarians is developing personal relationships with patients and their caregivers. We provide a welcoming atmosphere (lower lighting, calming music, blankets for comfort, ample time for an unhurried visit), and yummy treats (if appropriate and allowed) in an effort to create a relaxed and enjoyable experience. You will be present during the exam and treatment and engaged in discussion about nutrition, exercise, and Tuina, a gentle, easy-to-learn method of body work. Time and intention (or attention) are key components to forming a partnership in caring for your pet and promoting his or her health and healing.

Healing the whole person

The hospital's integrative medicine program combines the best therapies from conventional medicine with our integrative medicine approach, to form a comprehensive system of biomedical care.

From a patient's very first visit with us, we attempt to uncover the underlying story of the patient's journey from wellness to disease. We listen. Based on our findings, we tailor a plan for each individual patient based on their lifestyle, their needs and their preferences. We consider the patient an integral part of the treatment team, and encourage patients to take control of their medical care.

Integrative medicine is the use of therapies generally not considered to be part of conventional medical care. As defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institute of Health (NIH), integrative medicine can incorporate:

Integrative Medicine is a healing-oriented approach that takes the whole person into account, including all aspects of lifestyle. It combines cutting-edge, conventional medicine with evidence-based, complementary and alternative approaches.

New therapies are selected on the basis of their scientifically proven safety and effectiveness, regardless of their origin. The result is an array of services intended to tackle the complex dynamics contributing to your health. Often, the physical state is symptomatic of mental, emotional, social, spiritual, or environmental factors that only a comprehensive, personalized health plan can resolve.

At the core of integrative medicine is the concept of the partnership between patient and healthcare practitioner.
